# Pi test-card FAT32 preconditioning

Status: complete; both authorized cards are unmounted full-capacity FAT32 inputs for controller commissioning
Type: evidence
Updated: 2026-07-22
Next Action: remove and physically identify the selected card at the controller, then record controller/card identity before requesting controller programming and HPT whole-card initialization
Campaign Reason: Historical record from campaign 013-close-hpt-media-2-initial-release-qualification; retained independently after campaign closure and requires no separate owner-queue execution.
Campaign: standalone
Parent: work/checklists/checklist-hpt-log-store-dedicated-card-controller-qualification.md

## Authorization and safety

The operator explicitly authorized: "erase and FAT32-format both card-cs0 and
card-cs1 on srv-rpi00." Immediately before erasure both stable targets were
present, unmounted, removable, writable, exactly 7,948,206,080 bytes, and
distinct from the Pi root device `/dev/mmcblk0` (`/dev/mmcblk0p2` mounted at
`/`). The first preflight stopped without mutation because `blockdev` was not
installed; the successful run used `lsblk -b` for the same exact size check.

## Result

| Sample | Stable whole-device ID | Reader path at operation | MBR PTUUID | FAT32 label | FAT UUID | Partition bytes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | ---: |
| card-cs0 | `/dev/disk/by-id/usb-NORELSYS_1081CS0_0123456789ABCDE-0:0` | `/dev/sda` | `85bdd89a` | `HPTCS0` | `65E1-0B5C` | 7,947,157,504 |
| card-cs1 | `/dev/disk/by-id/usb-NORELSYS_1081CS1_0123456789ABCDE-0:1` | `/dev/sdb` | `7e9edc01` | `HPTCS1` | `6616-C9B8` | 7,947,157,504 |

Each card now has a DOS/MBR partition table and one partition starting at sector
2,048, type `0x0c` (W95 FAT32 LBA), extending through sector 15,523,839. Both
were formatted by `mkfs.fat 4.2`; `fsck.fat 4.2 -n` reported one file and one
allocated cluster out of 1,936,432 with no error. Neither partition was mounted.

The previous raw HPT contents were erased and are not recoverable from these
cards through this workflow. Previously preserved manifests remain historical
upstream evidence; this FAT32 state is the controller first-use input condition,
not controller qualification.

## Controller assignment

The operator assigned the prepared samples as follows on 2026-07-22:

- Controller A (`1751136`, J-Link `69664082`) -> `card-cs0` / FAT label `HPTCS0`.
- Controller B (`1751219`, J-Link `69660123`) -> `card-cs1` / FAT label `HPTCS1`.

Physical insertion and electronic card identity remain to be confirmed at each
controller before programming or whole-card HPT initialization.
