# Checklist: Consolidate VS Code workspace roots

Status: complete
Type: checklist
Updated: 2026-07-21
Next Action: none
Campaign Reason: Historical or workspace-maintenance record retained independently; no separate owner-queue execution is required.
Campaign: standalone
Parent: work/maps/map-smi-firmware-stabilization-and-qualification.md

## Goal

Keep the firmware repository as the single VS Code workspace root. Expose Discovery, Plans, shared Renesas setup, and the independent HPT7 standards repository through ignored junctions in the firmware tree, without moving or deleting their source directories or merging Git history.

## Checklist

- [x] Remove Discovery, Plans, Renesas setup, and Tool Shed from the top-level VS Code workspace folders.
- [x] Initially retain the firmware and HPT7 Control Platform Standards repositories as top-level workspace folders.
- [x] Preserve the populated, ignored firmware-local Tool Shed snapshot and its existing `/tool_shed/` ignore rule.
- [x] Add root-anchored ignore rules for all new junctions.
- [x] Create `discovery`, `plans`, and `renesas-setup` directory junctions in the firmware repository.
- [x] Parse the workspace file as JSON and confirm it contains exactly the two intended repository roots.
- [x] Confirm each junction resolves to the intended external directory.
- [x] Confirm Git ignores the junction paths and repository boundaries remain intact.
- [x] Remove HPT7 Control Platform Standards as a separate workspace root.
- [x] Add an ignored `platform-standards` junction while preserving its independent Git repository.
- [x] Confirm the final workspace has one root and Standards is visible beneath it.

## Runtime Closeout

Use this section only when the checklist changes a running system, scheduler, service, or external status surface.

- [x] Not applicable — this was a workspace-only change with no running-system surface.
- [x] Not applicable — this change had no published or external status surface.
- [x] Not applicable — this change replaced no runtime service or scheduler.
- [x] The retained workspace file, ignored junctions, and Git boundaries provide the rollback/reference surfaces.
- [x] The verification below records the ignored local workspace surfaces; no tracked runtime example was required.

## Verification

Passed on 2026-07-21: parsed `E:/dev/high_point/7520553_SMI_FW.code-workspace` with one firmware root; inspected all four junction targets and content probes; `git check-ignore` matched all junctions and `tool_shed`; and `git rev-parse --show-toplevel` returned distinct firmware and standards repository roots, including when Standards was entered through `platform-standards`.
